How to Make Your Window Boxes Flourish
Friday, December 28, 2018
Maintaining window boxes is although easier than taking care of a whole garden. However, many people still struggle to do it. If you are one of those people and you watch window boxes that are overflowing with beautiful flowers with envy, you need help.
You want your window boxes to look gorgeous too, right? No problem. We know how to maintain window boxes properly and we’ll share our secrets with you. By following our advice, you’ll be able to transform your window boxes for the better. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what you need to do to beautify your window boxes.
1. Potting Soil Is Important
Planting window boxes begins with quality soil. Replacing soil isn’t necessary every year as you’ll have the leftover from the last growing season. However, you should fork the potting soil of the window box around and top it off with a fresh layer so that your plants can get the start they rightly deserve.
2. Fertilize Regularly
For vegetable gardens, it is important to only fertilize sparingly. Otherwise, you’ll end up with less fruit. The opposite is true for a flower garden. Flowers love fertilizer. If you want to keep your flowers gorgeous, apply fertilizer to the window box at least once a week.
3. Fill Up Your Window Boxes
Some people don’t plant the flowers closer together in their window boxes. That is a mistake and it can make your window box look dull and spacey. To ensure that your window box looks full, lush, and vibrant, plant all your flowers closer together. This will give your window box a fuller appearance and your flowers will look more gorgeous.
4. Be Selective
You may have seen pictures of window boxes on the internet that look amazing and thought about planting your window boxes at the same location as the one in the picture. That is a bad idea. The reason is that some people don’t get a lot of sun on their home, while others do.
You should always consider this essential element when deciding the type of flower to plant in the window box. If your window box is in the sun, only plant flowers which thrive under the sun. If your window boxes are in shade, choose flowers which don’t need the sun to survive.
5. Water Your Window Boxes
This goes without saying. Since, flowers are not in ground, they can only pull a limited amount of moisture from the soil. If you fail to water your window boxes, the flowers won’t thrive and will soon die. Therefore, you should properly water your window boxes. However, make sure not to overwater the flowers.
By following these tips, you can make your window boxes flourish. If you are thinking about installing more window boxes, then get some from the Flower Framers of Cincinnati. Contact us if you have any questions about our window boxes.
