The Art of Arranging Beautiful Flowers in Window Boxes
Thursday, October 11, 2018
For all those people who love gardening but can’t practice their passion because they don’t have lawns in their houses, you can fulfill your long-standing desire by growing a miniature garden right outside your window. These miniature gardens are called window boxes or flower boxes, and they happen to be one of the best ideas to add a tasteful look to your house or even apartment.
Although there are a number of ways to plant flowers in window boxes, you need to make sure of two things. Firstly, plant flowers in such a way that when they grow, they drop down from the sides of the box. Secondly, choose the right size of flowers for a window box.
In this article, we will share some ideas for planting flowers in window boxes that will add life to the empty, simple, and boring windows of your house.
1 - Plant Single Flowers
It’s not necessary that you plant various types of flowers in a window box. You can achieve a beautiful look by just using s single type of flower. In fact, a single flower arranged in every window box gives a very bright and striking look if the flower you have chosen is in contrast with the color of your house walls. You can plant purple petunias if the walls of your house are yellowish and bright red geraniums would look absolutely stunning if the walls are pale green.
2 - Try to Plant Flowers with Different Heights
Filling up your window box with a variety of flowers is also a great idea. If you’re up for this idea, make sure you select flowers with varying heights. Also, you need to be careful that the tallest plant in your window box is not taller than 12 inches. Otherwise, it would obstruct the outside view from your house. The tall plants in a window box must be planted at the back of the box, the bushy ones in the middle, and the flowers should be planted right in front so that they spill over the edge of the box when they grow.
3 - Select Flowers of Various Shapes
Another way to make the windows of your house look beautiful is to plant flowers of different colors, shapes, and sizes. It’s entirely up to you what flower you choose; you can go with the spiky ones, like snapdragons or with the round ones, like pansies. The one thing that is very important is planting grass. Grass provides attractive foliage and also a pleasant scent.
